Norway's Magnus Carlsen defeats Russia's Sergey Karjakin, retains chess world champion title.

Time to draw some conclusions: Magnus is not invincible at match playing and many top contenders are taking notes about his highs and downs. Magnus is still the best player in the world, but he could have lose his title due to weak preparation, both theoretical and psychological. Karjakin won the psychological battle early, but couldn't maintain his temper due  probably to exhaustion, having to defend with incredible resources against the world`s number 1. Karjakin's strategy worked very well even when he was on the verge of defeat on games 3 and 4, his win at the candidates tournament proved to be very well deserved. Karjakin was a worthy contender and can be considered "king of defense", he was incredibly cold blooded in the most difficult situations. Almost nobody gave a penny about his chances but the guy is a great representative of russian chess and kept his name on a high standard. Most chess commentators around the world were wrong when commenting live

Brilliant win by 11 years old prodigy from India.

It's sunday and it wasn't my intention to write an entry but i came across a brilliant win by no other than the youngest IM ever, 11 years old Praggnanandhaa R from India, we have been watching this kid for some time and hasn´t dissapointed us, the kid sure has to improve a lot (just 11 remember?) but at his young age he shows extreme proficiency whenever has the initiative at his hands, the following game is an impressive game against one of the leading players in latin America, GM Axel Bachmann who naively confronts a black fianchetto with a Qd2 Bh6 setup, maybe he was wondering to give a quiet checkmate to this kid, but at the end he is the one who will get checkmated in just 19 moves!!

Chess supercoach Mark Dvoretsky passes away at 68.

He was probably the most known and respected chess coach in the world, his signature series of "school of chess excellence" are a must in every serious student library and i think i'm not exaggerating if i say that reading his books opens a complete new world of profound strategic understanding. I remember how antonished i was while figuring out the process of making a plan in the brain of a grandmaster. He still had a lot to give but his enormous contribution for our beloved game will last forever. Rest in peace, master Dvoretsky .

Beautiful punishment by Georgian GM Jovaba in the Chess Olympiad 2016.

Baadur Jovaba is a particular player, he is rated below 2700 but some games show that his true strength must be that of an elite player. He is known for being probably the only player of GM caliber to play 1.d4 2.Nc3!? known as the Veresov opening (soon to be renamed the "Jovaba" opening?) and he is doing great in the Olympiad 2016 (7.5 out of 9, no defeats). An imaginative player indeed, in this game he plays is pet Veresov opening and punishes his opponent GM Ponomariov for carelessly abandon his king side.

Another sicilian defense smashed by Wei Yi.

Chinese wizard Wei Yi is known for his proficiency fighting the sicilian defense, in some of his games his playing reminds us of another sicilian slayer by excellency, former world champion and "wizard of Riga", Mikhail Tahl. This time his victim is a Chinese compatriot whose doubtfully play leads to a hard punishment by Wei.

Cloud9 acquired by Amazon.

I am a long time Cloud9 user, altough i have never paid a dime on it (i use their free features) i am a declared fan. Cloud9 is a complete development environment that lives in the cloud, yes, you just start your browser, point an url, sign in and voila, you can start coding in the cloud for free by creating a customized virtual machine for your taste, be it Python, PHP, C++ etc. it even gives the option to create a completely customized VM with whatever you want on it. A great tool indeed, great for proofs of concept, mocks etc. I have tested other online IDEs but Cloud9 stands apart for their large set of features. Well, i just received an email from Cloud9 and guess what, the have acquired by no other than big giant internet monster Amazon and they will be part of the Amazon Web Services stack. Is this good or bad news, i have a feeling (hope i'm wrong) that this is the end (like "The Doors" said) to good old free features and we will have to start to pay.

Glenn Hughes IS The Man

Notorious hacker defaces Catalan Police website to the rythm of Chilean rapper "Subverso".

He did it again, "Phineas Fisher" is a very skilled hacker who won fame by breaching no other than the infamous "Hacking Team" , an italian based security group that helps governments on spying their citizens. Yes, those "hackers" got hacked and their butt kicked for being so notouriously uncool and sold. Well, this time the digital vigilante targeted the catalan police "Mossos d'Esquadra" known for their brutality and excessive force use against civilians. The breaching has been extensively covered in a youtube video, once again it warns against the use of some incredibly popular php cms like Wordpress. If you don´t have time to apply the proper patches for your cms and want to get hacked, please use WordPress my friend. If you are interested in white/black hat security the video is worth watching, the techniques used are not so obscure and perfectly understandable, use them at your own risk. The guy claims that he is "Chema Alonso&

Another impressive chess demolition by Wei Yi

The chinese prodigy had already signed his trademark in his impressive win over Lazaro Bruzón (by many called "game of the century"), this time for the delightness of attacking chess fans, comes another "petit bouchee", this time against Vietnamese Dao Thien Hai, a respectable and experienced grandmaster. Wei played 1.e5 and guess what.. Dao replied 1..c5 , yes, the uncompromising sicilian defense, probably the most productive "candy factory" of beautiful chess games, the game went into the Najdorf variation with Bg5, on move 14 the position was already asking for some king of "sicilian" sacrificed and Wei proceded with 14. Nf5! in a punishing style. Just a couple of moves more and another sacrifice 16.Rxe6!, Wei just wanted to make the black king some dancing to finally claim a checkmate, see by yourself.

The "K" factor, Sergey Karjakin wins Moscow candidates tournament, will face world N°1 Magnus Carlsen.

In one of the most unpredictable candidates tournament ever, the former prodigy child, russian GM Sergey Karjakin arose winner thanks to his win over direct opponent for the first place, italo-american GM Fabuano Caruana. With Anand out of run due to his loss over Nakamura, there were only two real contenders for the title and they were paired for one last, decisive game like a cinematographical ending. And they didn't dissapoint, Karjakin opened with 1.e4 and Caruana went "all in" by playing 1..c5, the sicilian defense, the defense of the brave, used in countless decisive games where there only option is to win, effectively Caruana succeded in creating an unbalanced position with chances for both sides, but Karjakin kept his nerve and once again like all the tournament, remained focused and determined, with brilliant tactics attacked the exposed black king and brought the point home to his motherland Russia. Now he will face the strongest player in the world, former p
